Braised Beef Flank Plate with Turnip

Beef flank plate 2 lb
White turnip 1 lb
Ginger 3 slices
Garlic, crushed 1 tsp
Chu Hou Paste 1 tsp
Cinnamon stick 1 pc
Nutmeg 1 pc
Star anise 2 pcs
Bay leaf 2 pcs
Salt 1 1/2 tsp
Rock sugar 1 tbsp
Light soy sauce 1 tbsp
Dark soy sauce 1 tbsp
Water as needed

1. Cut beef flank plate into pieces, each about 4 cm x 2 cm.
2. Boil a pot of water and place beef flank plate in for about 5 minutes. Remove beef and set aside.
3. Skin white turnip, clean and cut into pieces, each about 2-3 cm.
4. Heat up a cooking pot, add 2 tbsp oil. Place ginger, garlic and Chu-Hou paste in to fry. Then add beef flank plate to fry for 2 minutes.
5. Add water to cover the beef, and add all the remaining seasonings.
6. Bring to boil and let it simmer for half an hour.
7. Add in white turnip, simmer for another half an hour. Ready to serve.
